The perfect MX-5 NA modifications for street and racetrack - Where to start first

With lots of parts for the MX-5 NA available on the market, many people get confused. Which parts should I have priority 1, which can I do later? Here you will find the optimal guide for rebuilding, regardless of whether your goal is a tracktool, daily or the second car for Sundays when the weather is nice. Of course, we assume that the basic maintenance and troubleshooting have already taken place (e.g. rust removal on the sills).
First of all, we divide into 2 different target groups: the street vehicles and the racing vehicles. So you should be relatively sure beforehand where the journey with your MX-5 is going. Let's start with the modifications for the road:

Street modifications:

Stage 1:
The first conversion stage is about creating the basis for later conversions and further improving the already good driving characteristics of the MX-5 NA. So we start with a Silver's Neomax N suspension in combination with a good wheel-tire combination. We recommend 8x15 offset 25 as the rim size (the fenders must be rolled for this) in order to create the necessary contact surface for the tire, but also to create a coherent visual image. We mostly use a Nankang NS-2R in 205 / 50R15 as the tire. In addition, you can install Lugnuts to round off the look a bit.

Stage 2:

If we have been successful with the first conversion stage and move the car in a sporty way, then the brakes are next on our checklist. Here we recommend StopTech brake discs and brake pads for the front axle. We can ignore the rear axle for now.

Stage 3:

In the third stage, we take care of the interior and passenger safety. For this purpose, a roll bar (usually the Track XL) finds its way into the interior of the car to give the MX-5 the necessary safety and stability on the road. When choosing future seats, you are welcome to use our ready-to-install seat packages. We cannot give you an exact seat here, as personal preferences and the stature of the driver are very important here. We always recommend using the 3-point belts for street cars and especially for the MX-5 that is used daily. You should definitely include this tip in the selection of your future seat. In addition, a new steering wheel is installed in combination with a steering wheel hub. For the steering wheels, you can use the filter function in our shop to specify your desired steering wheel diameter and dish, in order to find exactly the steering wheel you want. Just try it out HERE!

Stage 4:

In the fourth stage, the increase in performance comes into play! With our performance part packages you are always on the safe side with your MX-5 NA that you can use your power effectively and, above all, safely! We recommend our brand-new Stage 1 performance parts package with the new Garrett GBC turbocharger series. Racecars / Tracktools:

The basic structure of the track packages are similar, but not the same. Safety needs to be increased, so that the occupants are absolutely safe in the event of an accident on the racetrack. Let's start with Stage 1.

Stage 1:

In the first stage we deal again with the subjects of suspension, wheels and tires. Here we recommend the Neomax-R coilover system. As with street vehicles, rim and tire sizes are a 205 / 50R15 on an 8x15 offset 25. The difference here is the tire itself, Nankang AR-1s are used for track tools to get the necessary grip on the racetrack. Lugnuts can also be used here, just because we're building a track tool doesn't mean that the MX-5 can't be looking nice.

Stage 2:

The braking system is then also upgraded in stage 2. For this we use the StopTech brake system in 280mm. So we can use the grip generated in stage 1 correctly during braking maneuvers and there is no risk of fading or the like.

Stage 3:

Here we take care of the interior and the safety of the passenger cell again. For this we use the SPS Motorsport bolt on cage in combination with Schroth belts for left and right and new seats. As already mentioned above, the seat always depends on personal preferences and body measurements, if you need help here, you are welcome to contact us by email. In addition, the old steering wheel is replaced with a new steering wheel with hub. If you click HERE, you will come directly to the steering wheels.

Stage 4:

The last stage is also about performance increases. Here, too, you can make wonderful use of our performance part packages and should start with the new Stage 1 with a Garrett GBC turbocharger.
