Rear Counterweight - 1974-82 12A Engines - All automatic transmission-configured Mazda 12A and 13B rotary engines are equipped with a rear counterweight as shown. The rear counterweight serves as both a critical engine balancing component and as an attachment point for the automatic transmission flex plate. Racing Beat offers these various 12A and 13B counterweights with our lightweight and steel flywheels to maintain correct engine balance. (On the OEM manual transmission flywheel, a "counterweight" feature is cast into the flywheel and is a non-removable component.)
We off these Mazda 12A and 13B rotary engine counterweights separately for special projects or as a replacement unit. Mis-matching a counterweight to the wrong engine application will result in an out-of-balance rotating assembly, engine damage, and possible injury or death. It is critical to match the counterweight to the specific engine rotors being used! If you have any questions with regards to the selection of the correct counterweight for your engine, contact us prior to placing your order.
