The Racing Beat-manufactured Thin Wall Spark Plug Socket is designed to allow the installation and removal of spark plugs other than the factory recommended plugs in all 1981 and later engines. The use of this socket can be used with all 13/16" hex (20.8mm) spark plugs. (NGK spark plugs that begin with the letter "B" required the use of this thin wall socket.)
Racing spark plugs NGK R6725-11.5 and NGK R6725-10.5 do not require the use of this socket.
The ultra high-precision EDM (electric machine discharge) process transforms a genuine Snap-On 18MM brand socket into a 13/16" hex thin wall version that slips inside the raised boss casting found on the 1981 and later rotor housings to drive the spark plug hex - the OD of a standard 13/16" socket is too large to fit inside this raised casting. The exacting manufacturing tolerances of the Snap-On socket make this our only available choice for use in this application, but they are a very expensive socket! Once the EDM cutting process is completed and the socket walls have been thinned, care must be taken not to over-torque the spark plug or risk damage to this precision tool. Just be careful and you shouldn't experience any problems.
